1. Tell me About Yourself?
How to Answer: The best way to answer this question is given below. The below given is an example and you need to modify your answer based on your experience, background, strengths, achievements and aspiration.
Ideal Answer: I am going to categorize my answer in 4 parts: My Total Experience(we consider some random skills), My .NET Experience & Projects, My key strengths and Achievements and my educational achievements.
Part 1- My name is Ravi (let’s take a random name), I have a total of 4 years’ experience in the IT Industry and I have successfully performed in various capacities/roles with XYZ Company at Bangalore and ABC company in Hyderabad. Most of the experience is in ASP.NET with excellent command on MVC & some exposure to WPF and WCF.
Part 2– I have done 2 projects at XYZ company and 1 Project at ABC Company. My key contributions in XYZ projects were to develop a purchase planning module of Flexcube Banking ERP for an international bank with heavy usage of MVC. At the beginning of the project, I did not have any experience on MVC but I quickly learnt through theory and practice at home late nights to be able to effectively contribute to my project deliverables and ensure that the project is delivered on time. I also used WPF/WCS services to deliver on small functionalities of the project. As a result of this project, I got a complete understanding of ‘Purchase Planning’ functionality of Banking ERP and also got a good understanding of Banking Domain.
My key contributions for a project through ABC company were using ASP.NET along with SQL to deliver on SCM module for client ERP. The objective of the project was to seamlessly integrate client’s suppliers with their warehouses to achieve just in time delivery/manufacturing of Unilever products. We (team of 8 developers) were imparted 3 weeks training on ASP.NET, SQL and SCM module along with an understanding of client’s industry. I effectively contributed to the project by providing creative inputs on how to create triggers and alerts through email/SMS to suppliers and Unilever for achieving the required TAT for just in time objective.
Part 3– To summarise my key strengths and achievements, I would say I have good command on .NET and MVC along with SQL.

2. How would you summarise your main skills/top 3 technology strengths?
As mentioned earlier, I stack rank my skills as below –
I have extensive experience working on these technologies in various projects and my primary responsibility was that of participating in design activities, coding and working along testing teams. Break up of my R&R would be 5% design, 90% coding and 5% testing.
One of the challenges I faced during was that I had no experience on MVC and project needed me to know MVC. So, I picked up on MVC through online tutorials, took help of my friends in my spare time and read about MVC at nights and weekends. This helped me to deliver MVC functionalities on time for the project and project was delivered BEFORE TIME.
3. What kind of organization/role are you looking for?
I’m looking for an Organization which will give me an opportunity to perform through a set of the process yet room to explore/innovate so that I can contribute new ideas/ways of implementing solutions. My work and performance should get fair treatment and I should get the opportunity to grow along with organization growth. I am aware that this company’s products are built on XXX Technologies and my passion to build my expertise on XXX technologies will go hand in hand to create a true partnership for this employment.
I am also open to organizations who believe in role changes for employees/team members so that employees can pick up on new skills/technologies and yet organization benefits by creating a live backup in case one/some employees leave.
4. Why should I/we Hire You?
As per my understanding of job along with roles/responsibilities, I believe that my skills & technologies match the position and I want to learn SILVER LIGHT (missing skill) to ADD VALUE to Organization & self. To assure you, I’m a quick learner and I go all out to acquire the skill. Eg: ASK others, Learn from the Internet etc.
And post my graduation and certification I have been following AAA(Organization name) on LinkedIn/Internet and have been looking for opportunities with AAA company that match my skills – I’m very Interested in being associated with AAA(Organization name).
5. What are your Strengths?
In my previous employment, I have been recognized for ‘performance excellence’ for quality delivery of my project and I was also recognized as employee of Q3-2012 for receiving 3 client appreciations as a result of ‘before time delivery of my projects’. Hence, I would like to say my quality approach coupled with a sense of urgency and customer focus are my key strengths.
6. What are your Weaknesses?
My weakness is overindulgence and laser sharp focus. If I have to do a task, I need to know everything about the task- how, why, when, where etc. And I can perfectly deliver on given task if I am not involved in multiple things. I am practising multi-tasking by prioritizing and timing each task so that I can overcome my weakness.
7. What do you know about our organization and why are you interested in this organization?
Working with AAA has always been a dream since the time I was a teenager.
I have been following AAA (Organization Name) through LinkedIn, Wikipedia, Company Website, Annual reports found on Internet, Friends working in the Organization. I am aware that AAA employs over 300 thousand people and operates in over 100 countries.
I have heard that AAA being a global company nurtures a global & MNC culture and that’s what makes me even more interested in AAA.
I believe that working with AAA and the global work environment of AAA adds value to my career as it will give me an opportunity to get experience working in a competitive environment and learn new skills.
8. Why did you leave your last Job and why are you looking for a change from your current employer?
I worked with my previous employer for 1 year or 4 years (whatever may be the situation). I changed my job because there was a slowdown with respect to new projects because of recession or I changed my job because I wanted to work on latest technology (MVC/WCF/WPF etc.) and my company projects were expected to continue on vanilla .NET.
I’m currently very happy with the company I work with and I am not actively looking for a change. I was approached/headhunted by one of the Best Employment Agency for this opportunity.
Since AAA is one of the dream companies, I always wanted to work for; I decided to appear for this interview. After having understood the roles/responsibilities, I believe it is the right move I’m making.
9. What are your top achievements?
My key achievement in last 5 years is getting rewarded as ‘employee of the quarter- 3 Times’, getting appreciation from the client stakeholders for 2 different projects, 3 promotions within the same company in a span of 3 years. Last but not least, all the key skills I have acquired over the years; and the knowledge/learning that I have gained.
10. How can you add value to this organization?
I believe I will ADD VALUE to Organization by adhering to the organization’s culture, values, the process followed, meeting customer SLAs, being focused, Teach/Mentor/Share with others on the above & best practices.
11. Describe a difficult work situation and what did you do to overcome it?
Challenge has to be Project specific along with Solution provided/Adopted & Business impact [Recruiter has to help candidate answer this question based on the Resume, G2 and IOI.]
12. Where do you see yourself in 5 years or what are your career aspirations?
I see myself as a person & in a position where I can contribute to the Organization’s growth. I would like to be financially better off so that I can independently support my family without the support of my parents/in-laws. Lastly, I would like to be known for my work and my work should become a true reflection of what people talk about me
13. What’s your salary expectations?
As mentioned earlier, Opportunity to learn, perform and prove myself is important. I am keen to experience challenging assignments which will help me acquire new skills and take my career upwards and I’m looking forward to being a part of AAA(organization name) for a long duration.
